Our Story
Linda Holt is the founder of Homestead Enterprises, based at Homestead Hill in Wannon, where she and her husband, Patrick, share traditional food skills, sustainable living practices, and hands-on country workshops.
Raised on a farm in New South Wales, Linda developed a strong connection to the land and a practical understanding of self-sufficiency. Seasonal food, home preserving, gardening, livestock, and making the most of what was available were part of everyday life. Those early experiences shaped a lifelong passion for traditional skills and sustainable food systems.
Over the years, Linda has continued to build on that foundation through travel, training, and lived experience. She has lived in several countries and has learned from local communities along the way. Her skills include cheesemaking, food preserving, sustainable gardening, small-scale farming, and traditional home production.
After years of being asked to share what she knew, Linda established Homestead Enterprises to help others reconnect with practical, homemade food skills. Her workshops are designed to be friendly, informative, and hands-on, giving participants the confidence to make food at home using simple methods, seasonal ingredients, and traditional techniques.
At Homestead Hill, Linda’s cheesemaking and preserving workshops offer more than just a recipe demonstration. Participants learn the why behind the process, ask questions, get involved, and leave with practical knowledge they can use in their own kitchens.
Linda is often joined by her husband Patrick, who brings his own background in American-style hot and cold smoking. Together, they create workshops that combine skill, storytelling, hospitality, and genuine country experience.
In 2021, Linda and Patrick relocated to Western Victoria and rebuilt Homestead Hill from the ground up. Today, it is both their home and a working expression of the values they teach: simplicity, resilience, resourcefulness, and connection to the land.
Through Homestead Enterprises, Linda is dedicated to keeping traditional skills alive and making them accessible to anyone who wants to learn, create, and enjoy the satisfaction of homemade food..
